Bernardo Silva is once again at the center of transfer speculation, and this time, the desire to leave Manchester City appears more concrete.
Despite remaining a crucial part of Pep Guardiola’s squad, the Portuguese midfielder is understood to be open, and even keen—on a new challenge away from the Premier League champions. This isn’t a sudden development but rather a continuation of a long-standing situation, with Silva having explored exits in previous transfer windows.
City, however, are not making it easy. The club continues to demand a high transfer fee, reflecting Silva’s importance and consistency at the top level. As a result, interest has yet to translate into a formal move.
In Portugal, Benfica remain an emotional option. The idea of a return appeals to both the player and supporters, but financial limitations make a deal unrealistic at this stage of his career. Any reunion is more likely to happen later, rather than now.
Spain has been a more serious destination. FC Barcelona showed strong interest last year, with Xavi viewing Silva as an ideal fit for his system. However, Barcelona’s financial struggles prevented them from meeting City’s valuation, and the move never progressed beyond negotiations.
Silva’s camp has also tested the waters elsewhere. Real Madrid were among the clubs approached, but they opted against pursuing a deal. Madrid’s current recruitment model prioritizes younger talents, as seen with signings like Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga, leaving little room for a high-cost player nearing his 30s.
With the player reportedly pushing for a move but no club meeting City’s demands, the situation remains unresolved. Unless a financially capable suitor emerges, Silva may once again find himself staying in Manchester, despite his clear intention to move on.
